Description
This gristmill was captured in Spring Mill State Park in Indiana.
Back in 1815, the spring streams that still spout from openings in the cave-riddled limestone of southern Indiana attracted soldier Samuel Jackson, Jr., to build a crude water-powered mill. The site became the town of Spring Mill, and later owners built bigger mills to accommodate area farmers.
The village, abandoned in the late 19th century after the railroad chose a northern route, has been restored to its 1833 period of prosperity.
