Artist's Description
Goddard White Bridge is an example of the only surviving Ithiel Town Lattice design in Kentucky. Goddard White Bridge is considered one of the more photographed covered bridges in Kentucky. This bridge is located just off of KY 32 (Morehead Road) at Covered Bridge Road in Goddard, near Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Original construction date of this bridge is unkhown; however, Ithiel Town Lattice bridges like Goddard White Bridge date back to the 1820's. Goddard white Bridge is constructed by wooden planks and has wooden pegs that act as nails to keep the bridge together. Goddard Bridge may be the oldest bridge in the state. Goddard White Bridge spans over 60 feet across Sand Lick Creek on its way to Goddard Methodist Church and surrounding farms in the area. This bridge is still accessible by motorized and pedestrian traffic. Goddard White Bridge is one of three covered bridges located in Fleming County. Goddard Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
