This is a wildflower that is better know around the world by its scientific name - Echinacea purpurea. The flowers of Purple Coneflower are used to make an herbal remedy that strengthens the immune system, and Echinacea is available as a tea, capsules or tablets in pharmacies and health food stores across the world. Purple Coneflower is a tall, daisy-like perennial, with large flower heads with drooping purple, pinkish or white rays round a cone-shaped, brown central disk. The leaves are ovate, with long stalks and prominent veins, and often with serrated edges. Purple Coneflower is easy to cultivate and makes an attractive addition to the garden. It is a member of the Aster family.
